Title: Something rather special - near Bristol - 16th Feb 2019
Post by: grahame on November 19, 2018, 09:41:28
If you're Bristol based ... this is one to note in your diary.  Planning is underway for something special on the afternoon of Saturday 16th February 2019.  I'll come back to tell you what and where, and you'll then probably guess why. You will learn whoo on the day.

Edit ... sadly, removed from calendar ...

I am delighted to hear that you have persuaded Mr Hopwood to be 'Meet the Manager' at Temple Meads on that day.

Oh ... I think we may have that lined up for a different day and time.

It's the nearest Saturday to Valentine's Day, so I'm expecting roses, chocolates, champagne, serenades and a declaration of everlasting love.

Is it a new direct service between the two most popular stations in photos on this forum?

1430 MKM-TAU 1530 SaO. Operated by HST.

Is it a gold plated gangers trolley with an Ellis  nameplate running from Melksham for when the replacement bus doesn't turn up. Mr Ellis drives one half you drive the other.

That time of the year it may be wise to wear something to keep your head warm.

Ooh, is that an RE or an LH?

Isn't LH just a Bristol RE variant? Long (36ft) and High frame.

Is the 'Whoo' a hint?

Not one or more of those ugly owl sculptures that featured earlier this year I hope?

On a more positive note - a fully refurbished Turbo, re-seated four across throughout, fitted with working air-conditioning, correctly set on-board signage and speakers set to the correct level, with the "mark 2" (charcoal and green, not "show every stain" light grey and green) GWR interior trim (surely too much to hope for?).

Wishful thinking..  ;D

I can't see  it available to pre-order on Amazon yet, but is it the launch for the new book b y GWR's publicity team, featuring Julian, Dick, George,  Anne, and Timmy the dog of course, on another ginger beer-fuelled adventure on the regions  railways?  If so, I can  hardly wait! "Five get Bustituted Again" has been a long time coming!

The reg on the dashboard belongs to a Boeing 737 now, but there are 4 engines on the one in the picture. An old B707, since scrapped? If so, it was from Bermuda.

So it's not that.

Looks as if whatever it was ain't no more.

Can Grahame elaborate.

Sadly, I have pulled that from the diary ... (edit top post of thread too).  Elements that were supposed to come together have not done so and so no "half baked" event.   As we hadn't said what or where, no-one's going to have bought and travel tickets. Sorry about the 'pull' ...

Not really (apart from my post above) ... some things that should have come together (outside my and Coffee Shop and Melksham Rail User Group spheres) have not done so.
