Title: South West Railway Diversions via Westbury - Sunday 09 December 2018
Post by: SandTEngineer on December 09, 2018, 09:40:36
I note that today (09 December 2018), that Waterloo to Exeter and return services are diverted between Salisbury and Yeovil Junction to call at Westbury onroute.  This gives Westbury an approximate two-hourly through service in both directions.  Not seen that done before.

Quite common when diversions occur. I'm currently on 1015 Waterloo to Westbury.

Yes, but I don't remember them being booked to call, only to reverse.

The CIS systems are not acknowledging the Westbury stop today even though the journey planners show it and I was sold an advance fare on the service.

It's happened before and I have used it. In September 2015 (19th according to photo dates) I caught an SWT service from Woking to Bath. The return journey involved an FGW train to Westbury where I boarded the SWT train back to Woking. It was showing on journey planners although I do recall it was 20 - 30 minutes late and disappeared off the CIS screens shortly after it was due.

Playing with realtimetrains just now there are 31 SW moves at Westbury today:
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/WSB/2018/12/09/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=call&order=wtt&toc=SW

of which only the following minority of 11 are shown as passenger calls:
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/WSB/2018/12/09/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=pax-calls&order=wtt&toc=SW
A few of them are the normal Sunday service.

Intentional or accidental?

Paul

The plot thickens.  The guard on the service from Clapham Junction stated that it was not a schedule stop, although I could get off as the and the driver would need to change ends.  The on board CIS was switched on at Salisbury and showed a Westbury stop and this was confirmed by the new guard who also told me that he always unlocked the doors at Westbury in any case.  The CIS at Westbury did not show the service and showed that it was a service for Cardiff.  i was able to stop one unsuspecting person from boarding it.  Finally my ticket clearly showed me booked on the 1022 Clapham Jct to Westbury
