Title: Problem at Westbury 1st Feb 2019
Post by: bradshaw on February 01, 2019, 08:54:34
The 1A71 Plymouth to Paddington has failed at Fairwood Jn, around 0715. Currently holding up 1A72 ex Plymouth, 1A73 ex Plymouth and 2D03 ex Weymouth.
The Westbury avoider seems closed on Traksy, presumably weather related.

Also appears to be a track circuit failure on the up main east of Westbury which will cause further delays when everything gets moving.

Nigh on appalling weather conditions in the Bath, Bristol, North Somerset and Wiltshire areas this morning with heavy snow continuing to fall.

Situation slowly returning to normal(ish).  1A71 still sat on platform 2.  It appears it was pushed into Westbury by 1A72.  1A73 now running 2½ hours late. 1A72 having shunted around the bad boy is now running 3 hours late. 2D03 cancelled at Westbury with 2D05 running 129 mins late and terminating at Bristol TM. 1010 westbury to Warminster cancelled.

Although Westbury problems now ended, the line is blocked between Bedwyn and Hungerford by a fallen tree. 1A81 diverted via Melksham

Update 1325: Line now reopened

Indeed, 1A72 pushed 1A71 into Platform 1 at Westbury. 1A73 then went through Westbury on to the B & H and then was stopped by the TCF. 1A72 reversed towards Clink Road then reversed again into platform 3 before continuing to Paddington where it arrived 3 1/4 hours late.

Not sure that's the case. 1A85 has been sat at or near Bedwyn for around 40 mins as I type (1520).

There also appears to be a Turbo (5K23) sat in the turnback siding for nearly an hour now.

A track machine (6Q54) has failed after hitting a tree.  Trees now removed, but 6Q54 needs rescuing and a loco is running from Westbury under the usual rescue headcode of 1Z99 (though obfuscated to 172L on OTT maps).  So, both lines are technically open, but the failed train is currently blocking the up line.

Looks like, after around 2 hours in the Bedwyn area, 1A85 has been moved to the down side and has re-traced it steps back towards Westbury (to presumably divert from there?).

1Z99 was also last seen proceeding towards the failed track machine, somewhere between Bedwyn and Hungerford.

1A85 cancelled at Bedwyn due to high winds according to RTT!

1A85 seemed to disappear after Heywood Road Junction on its backtracking.

I'm wondering if it became the 1C88 Paddinton-Penzance which is currently (17:43) sitting at Westbury, and which Journeycheck indicates will be started from Westbury today (not Paddington).

It's being reported as "full and standing".

On OTT and Tracksy all the passing loops on the B&H plus Newbury Racecourse platform 3 have the code KRS*

What does this mean?

Oh yea. Wonder if same reasons will occur in times of high winds WITHOUT the snow.

It stands for Key Route Strategy, meaning that some points are kept in one position in times of low temperatures and ice/snow to avoid them potentially failing when operated leading to problems.

Key Route Strategy. Access to these lines denied in case points get stuck, thus points giving access to the location must not be switched from the 'normal' position or summut like that.
