Title: What was Phil up to 50 years ago in March 1969
Post by: PhilWakely on March 05, 2019, 09:06:55
Still ploughing through the library of old negatives found in the attic, I came across these taken with an old 126 size Box Brownie. Quality not exactly perfect, but I was very pleased to come across these as I remember the event as if it were happening yesterday!

My old History and RE Master, Mr Steve Farrow was also a keen rail enthusiast and didn't think twice about taking a group of us lads out for the day in his 'big' Cortina, so that we could all enjoy some aspect of railwayana. Yes, I know it would be somewhat frowned upon in this day and age, but who worried 50 years back!

Anyway, what were we up to in late March 1969?

I'm sure a current photo of this location (I presume that was the station master's house) has been posted by someone somewhere here. Unfortunately I can't remember the location.

Luckett.

Would have been a rather long walk if that was Luckett. Steve Farrow parked the car up at Evercreech Junction and we walked to Midsomer Norton before returning back to Evercreech Junction by bus. I could not actually recall which station was which en route.

Less than three years since closure and not a trace a permanent way anywhere!

Despite it being quite heavy, we manhandled it all of the way to Midsomer Norton and it came back with us to school. I last saw it in a cupboard in the Geography room back in 1973, but the school has undergone two complete demolitions and rebuilds since then, so whether it has survived is anybody's guess.
