150221 has gone too far up the Down Loop at Laira Junction and derailed one bogie, on the London End trap points..... ::)

It was the unit destined for the Looe branch.

Crikey.  Two derailments now on seperate trap points involving the empty Looe line stock...... ::)

As well as the Falmouth branch one.  I think GWR will be getting very twitchy about the number of incidents they've had in the last few months, even though thankfully no injuries have been caused.

This incident is indeed concerning.
Laira Down Loop is approx 600-650 yards in length between the Limit of Shunt signal (P495) at the Paddington end and Signal P312 at the Penzance end which controls  movements from the loop.

In the last fifty years I can not recall a run through/derailment ever occurring at these trap points.

Yes, I wondered what they were doing that far along the loop. Shopping?

No, I think it was an attempt to clear all the budliea growing over the trap points and hiding them from view...... ::)

The rerailment overnight didn’t go to plan and it’s now closer to the river. The ground was too soft and saturated to support the jacks, the train is now against fence on the boundary.

Requires a crane now.

Went out for a walk round Saltram this morning and saw the train, thought to myself the angle of the rear unit looks odd, almost like its derailed, so took a photo. Came home and did a quick Google and found this forum. Thought I'd share the picture I took.

The zoom is quite far as I was on the other side of the river but you can just make out a man in orange to the right of the photo.

Crane currently en route from Westbury, hopefully to rerail tonight.

Network Rail staff in the aforementioned Sainsbury's car park say that is the plan as it needs a line closure to accommodate the crane.

But its next to the main line - nowhere near Sainsbury's Car Park!

Its the staff car park being referred to.  There is a track access point there as well.

And it was Sainsbury’s staff they were talking to.  ;)

It’s basically the main line width away from Sainsbury’s back door!

Unit was successfully re-railed overnight and returned to the depot.

No damage to the track.
