Title: Where was grahame, 30 May 2019
Post by: grahame on May 30, 2019, 22:01:48
We seem to be hitting a bit of a theme in "Lighter Side" with "where was".   Probably because it's the "get out and see places" season.   Where was I seeing today?

Morpeth, would work from a signalling point of view, with a position 3,main,4 and 5 with draw ahead, possibly with a RA indicator as its on a curve?

Yes, it's Morpeth ... Funnily enough, I thought it might be one of our S&T Engineers who identified it!

Other pictures from the day - some are more "record shots" than good photos.
--- Darlington, Widdrington, Chathill (2 pics), Manors, Newcastle, Derby ---

At Chathill, the sign “This platform for Berwick and the North” is a bit of a con, isn’t it?

How about “Stand clear, trains for Berwick and the North never stop”...

Indeed - or just "Set Down Only".

Lots of very interesting learning this week ... but "way up north" so off topic for the forum really.  Would members like me to post in "How Stuff Works" for our "Transport Scholars" (that's a board for members who have asked to be added to the deeper discussions) on my experiences as I go along?

Photograph 1 looks like Darlington to me (edited to add that there appears to be a curve on that platform so that would suggest Newcastle) - all very similar North Eastern Railway architecture)
Photograph 6 looks like Manors but it's been about 50 years since I was there  ;D
And I'd say that photograph 7 could be some gloomy view of platform 1 at Derby

Photograph 1 looks like ....

Indeed.  Unusually (even exceptionally) after a first "where's this" quiz, I posted a location for all the others just before the pictures - so that will tell you the others too.  Way out of area, so would hardly be fair as a significant quiz!

It looks like Procurement Department have got the plant-to-rock ratio badly wrong at Darlington. Where's Monty Don when you need him?

Someone told them on 32nd March that rocks are just like plants but don't need trimming back every year ...

Chathill is my younger brother’s local station.  I don’t think he’s ever used it.

I can reassure you that I'm not an S&T engineer.

But I have spent some time waiting on the southbound platform - from where the photo was taken.
