Title: Swan Lane Pier, and Ocean Diva
Post by: Red Squirrel on June 06, 2019, 10:00:19
Quote
Party boats are a common sight on the Thames – Martin Garside of the Port of London Authority says there are probably about 40 passenger boats in regular use on the tidal Thames in London for charter activities such as family celebrations, parties and corporate events.

But these craft are about to be eclipsed by the biggest party boat Britain has ever seen, if a Dutch company has its way. It wants to reinstate Swan Lane Pier near London Bridge, once the home of the Regalia floating pub, to accommodate a mega-boat called the Ocean Diva.

What does the Ocean Diva look like? Imagine, if you will, that Mariah Carey was a boat. And not just a boat, but a craft three storeys high and the length of a football pitch that was capable of hosting 1,500 passengers, with glitzy interiors, well-stocked bars, and lots of open deck space and dance floors. And a helipad. Of course.

One sentence particularly caught my eye:

Quote
The Ocean Diva’s website suggests it will give “every customer a unique and unforgettable experience”, be that “dinner on the outside deck, while enjoying the skyline of your own city” or creating “an inspiring and immersive brand event”.

Let's hope not.

Every Saturday game we have in London (Bristol City) a big crowd hire a boat like this to take us along the Thames, all a part of being a day tripper

Hope the City fans are subversive and behave themselves, otherwise it could very soon become a submersive event. And I am not one who has to shaddap, siddown, you're rocking the boat, courtesy of Frank Loesser and Pal Joey

You should hire a boat to take you along the K&A all the way to London, make a week of it.  :) (Or would it take a fortnight?)

Nearer a fortnight, or longer, depending on how many pubs you stop at on the way

If it's three storeys high presumably it will be confined to below London Bridge and need Tower Bridge opening.

Taking a narrowboat from Limehouse to Brentford on Tuesday there was already a boat jam around Tower pier with trip boats manoeuvring to call at the pier. Exacerbated by a large cruise liner (Silver Cloud) moored next to HMS Belfast, quite dwarfing the cruiser. Further up river we encountered a couple of spoil barges from Battersea Northern Line extension tunnels then throw in a couple of rubbish barges from Wandsworth and the Pool of London can get very busy!

A cruise liner and a cruiser? Potential for ambiguity aplenty. Pete Shelley might have sung
I'm a cruise liner,
You are mine-a

but... he didn't.
