Title: Quick Reply - where's it gone?
Post by: ChrisB on June 17, 2019, 16:31:22
At the bottom of each thread/post there used to be a Quick Reply box, where you could add a response to the end of the thread - it seems to have disappeared and you have to click the 'reply' button on the post you wish to respond to.

Cann we have it back please?

Odd ... don't recall it (but then I never used it).  About how long ago did it go?  Are you sure it was on the Coffee Shop and not some other forum?   I've had a look through the option settings in case something had got changed by a fat fingered admin such as myself but I can find a button to push to turn this on.

You can "reply" on the bottom, or "quote" on an individual thread ... I'm slightly confused; you'll have to show me next time I see you.

Sorry, ChrisB, but I agree with grahame on this one: the Coffee Shop forum has never had such a feature.  The two options are (and have always been) 'reply' or 'reply with quote' - and members with long memories will recall my ongoing requests that 'reply with quote' should only be used sparingly.  ;)

Requests that fall on deaf ears.

Indeed. Sorry couldn’t resist.  ;D

No, it definitely existed and has just disappeared.

Hmm.  I'm not convinced.

At the top and bottom of each page of posts in any topic is a 'reply' button. That puts any new post at the end of the thread - irrespective of how many pages further on that may be. I think that's what ChrisB meant - and that button is still there.

If you want to reply to a specific post, and keep your comments in the context of that particular post, you do need to go to that post and click on the 'quote' button. Your new post will still appear at the end of the thread, however many pages further on that may be, but it will also contain the original wording you have chosen to comment on.

Hmm.  I'm not convinced.

Neither am I Chris(fN).   It's likely I'll be at the same meeting as ChrisB on Saturday and (ChrisB) is you can show me which menu / on what circumstances there is no longer a button I can take a further look.   Really odd because I've not changed anything that I think would cause a button to be lost, and it's a very odd failure indeed to cause this problem and no (reported) other issue(s) yet.

Edit to add - "Recent posts" does include both "reply" and "reply with quote" at the base - perhaps folks have noted / remember than and thought it was everywhere.  See attachment just added to illustrate.
