Title: Christmas 2019, 2020 and 2021 planned major engineering works

From the TransWilts Stakeholder conference yesterday and this is very early data with changes possible, but was public shared.

Of course, a thread from me would not be complete without a reference to the line through Melksham:

To be clear, trains are replace by buses on 7th July ... the final day of something or other. The list above relates to jobs not yet started.

Re no more Melksham closures after July 7th - although that was said, I was also told the first train on the 15th September would be replaced by a bus and RTT seems to agree.

They are going to be (and are already coded) the BEast. Suggestion is that the work may be phased across so that although it's complete track renewal, the lines to Bath and toward Parkway will NOT all be closed for 84 days.

National Rail Planner suggests a journey of 99 minutes from Melksham to Swindon (normal time 27 minutes) ... 20 minutes on the bus, 64 minutes at Chippenham Station and 10 minutes on the train.

Hopefully the bus will be on time and the 64 minutes can be cut to 4 minutes - in fact I could have sworn we were told yesterday that the short bus interchanged at Chippenham were designed as connections, and it was a fault which had been corrected on the journey planner that they were telling people to wait just over an hour.

That'll be a lively Christmas Eve at Reading station then!
