Title: The last train ever to use the station?
Post by: grahame on July 08, 2019, 06:43:40
From the Western Daily Press, describing Saturday 18 April 1966

"It was a sentimental moment for 64 year old railwayman Mr Harry Dyer and his wife Cecilia as they waited for a train on Melksham Station on Saturday night. For it was the last train ever to use the station which is closing down" ....

If you see how Melksham Station has chanced in the 53 years since that article ... just think how things could equally have been different for Calne and Devizes and .... others had they had the luck to have been on a line that was still in situ as the tide turned to rail again.
