Title: Reading <-> Basingstoke disruption 12/08/19
Post by: Jason on August 12, 2019, 18:52:33
Due to a broken down train between Reading and Basingstoke all lines are blocked.
Impact: Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes. Disruption is expected until 20:30 12/08.

Looks like a freight train (476P) stuck at Bramley

What happened to clear the logjam?  I noted several Basingstoke - Reading trains stuck at Basingstoke

A rescue loco had to be sent from Southampton to move the failed freight train.

The line towards Reading re-opened just before 9pm.

Replacement buses ran between Basingstoke and Reading prior to that.

It also meant two GWR units were at the Basingstoke end of the line for a time so one was stabled in the rarely used siding next to platform 5.

Thanks bobm.  I stopped viewing just after the unit ran from platform 1 out and back to the siding.  Wondered if that was somehow going to run round the failed freight but seems not.  ;D
