Transport for London (TfL) has announced London Overground will run services on Boxing Day that have never operated before.

Good news for London passengers who travel to see family and friends over the festive period as Services to operate from Highbury & Islington to West Croydon and Clapham Junction to Hackney Wick.

The additional services mean that the London Overground operates 364 days a year, only excluding Christmas Day.

The service will run alongside existing services like London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), tram and bus services on Thursday 26 December. So, whether you are visiting loved ones or shopping in the sales, things just got a bit easier.

The quieter festive period is normally used to carry out vital maintenance work, meaning the London Overground Boxing Day services might change slightly from year to year.

The London Overground has seen huge success since its launch in 2007, becoming the third largest operator in the UK regarding passenger numbers.

The Boxing Day service is a reaction to demand and rising numbers which have gone from 33 million a year to 189 million a year in ten years.

There are rising numbers of passengers - and demand - on lines served by GWR too.  How long before selected services run here too on Boxing Day?

Have we ever discussed this before?   >:(

I can see Elizabeth Line trains running shortly after the tunnels finally open.  Less sure about any GWR services in the near future.

We have ... but times change as illustrated by the changes that London Overground are making this December.  I will keep it (  ;D ) brief - leave it at that.  Just spent a fascinating couple of hours planning out my travel for next week, which should lead to some fresh new pictures and experiences in and out of GWRLand.
