Title: Bridgewater Carnival 2nd November 2019
Post by: johnneyw on October 12, 2019, 17:48:28
I've been meaning to visit the famed carnival for many years and may have a go at it next month. The only thing that bothers me is if the trains will be too crowded to get there and more importantly back again. I know it's immensely popular and crowded so I wonder if anyone has any experience (or warnings) about getting there and back by rail? Do GWR increase their capacity for the event?

I'm not sure GWR serve Bridgewater (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridgewater,_Massachusetts).  :P

As for Carnival in Bridgwater, GWR do usually lay on additional rolling stock and/or services. They will be busy though. Carnival typically attracts upwards of 150,000 visitors.

This year, Carnival has an earlier start time of 6pm. With an earlier finish, the crowds getting away should be more spread out.

Well, that should keep the price down.

ISTR that Hitachi showed a publicity picture of an IET, with the destination display showing "Bridgwater" which seemed a rather odd choice rather than somewhere more well known.
It was suggested that that was done to prove that they knew how to spell it correctly !
