Title: Newquay branch - closed late October 2019 for urgent repairs
Post by: grahame on October 30, 2019, 06:38:22
From JourneyCheck (also reported on National Rail)

Newquay branch closed at least until the end of today (28.10.2019)

Quote
Due to urgent repairs to the railway between Par and Newquay the line is closed.

Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 28/10/19.

A retaining wall at a bridge has collapsed into a river I’m led to believe.

The intermediate stations don’t have great access for a full size coach and very few passengers, presumably why they are operating in that way

Now closed until 4th November (that's a week)

Alterations to services between Par and Newquay
Due to urgent repairs to the railway between Par and Newquay the line is closed.
Train services running to and from these stations will be suspended. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 03/11/19.
Customer Advice
Owing to subsidence affecting the railway between Par and Luxulyan we are unable to run trains on the line between Par and Newquay. Network Rail engineers are on site and will be making the repairs over the next few days, requiring the line to be shut for the rest of the week until Monday 4th November.

Replacement road transport has been arranged to run in lieu of the train service for this time. Please check station signs and wait for the replacement road transport at the designated stop. The replacement road transport may run later than the advertised train times owing to the additional time taken by road between stations and the time required for loading and unloading at each stop.

A coach has been arranged to run between Par and Newquay and Newquay and Par. Taxis will be provided for customers travelling to/from the intermediate stations (Quintrell Downs, St Columb Road, Roche, Bugle, Luxulyan).

If you are travelling from an unstaffed station please use the Customer Help Point or contact National Rail Enquiries on 03457 484 950 detailing the total number of passengers in your party and your intended destination.
First Kernow route 87: Truro (Station) - Newquay (Bus Station), First Kernow route 27: Truro (Bus Station) - St Austell (Station) - Bugle (The Square) - Roche - Bodmin and First Kernow route 25: Newquay (Cliff Road) - St Austell (Station) - Par (Station) are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.

Owing to subsidence affecting the railway between Par and Luxulyan we are unable to run trains on the line between Par and Newquay.

To reach the area that needs repairing a temporary dam has to be constructed to divert the river that runs alongside the railway and an access road has to be constructed to get machinery to the site.

Network Rail engineers are on site but work has not been able to start owing to the poor weather on Saturday and the high water level of the river.

Network Rail have informed us that the previously given estimated of re-opening the railway on Wednesday 6th November no longer looks achievable, once the repair work starts they will be able to provide a re-opening estimate which will be updated here.

Drove past the compound last night. Certainly a lot of resources on site for this remediation.

Network Rail have now estimated the re-opening of the railway will be on Monday 11th November - this will be confirmed nearer to the time as the repair work progresses.

I’d feel only for the freight traffic

Once freight starts getting put onto lorries there’s no guarantee it will get stay on the trains beyond the next contract renewal

Following subsidence affecting the railway between Par and Luxulyan were unable to run trains on the line between Par and Newquay.

A temporary dam has been constructed to divert the river that runs alongside the railway and the line is ready to be reopened on Monday 11th November 2019.

The first train on Monday the 0917 Par to Newquay will be cancelled as the train will be required to be used 'route prove' the line following the closure to ensure there are no trees or other debris following the poor weather earlier this month, should this be a success and subject to no issues being found, normal service will resume from 1010, with the first service running expected to be the 1013 Newquay to Par.
