Things are getting serious at Gipsy Patch Lane this year, with the replacement of the old arched bridge for the Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension (https://beta.southglos.gov.uk/cribbs-patchway-metrobus-extension/)

I'm loving the use of the 'Farewell to the HST' set to illustrate passing traffic... "Gipsy Patch Lane" I read ... and thought "nah - it's Gypsy Patch Lane". But, hey, I were wrong and (of course) Red Squirrel is right. Both spellings are good for general use. See Diversity Style Guide (https://www.diversitystyleguide.com/glossary/gypsy-gypsy-gipsy/). Having assigned "Gip" to the lane, it leaves "Gyp" as an even more special name in or family. At least when it's done, drivers will be able to get to the traffic lights for the A38 more quickly than at present. And it sounds as if Cribbs Causeway could be connected to Bristol Parkway by 2022 if MetroBust can find an operator.

During the closure of Gipsy Patch Lane, Network Rail will operate a shuttle bus for pedestrians needing access either side of the bridge. The shuttle bus will start operation on Thursday 5 March 2020 and will run weekdays, weekends and will also be available overnight.This service will be free of charge and will operate for the duration of time the railway bridge is closed to pedestrians Station Road (on which Patchway Station is) will be closed to vehicles at the GP Lane end, but pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the road from GP Lane. The new bridge is scheduled to be put in place between 11 -19 April 2020 when the railway line will also be closed. The road is to be widened by up to 9m.
