Title: Cancellation of Semi-fasts affecting Pewsey, Westbury, Castle Cary
Post by: Timmer on February 10, 2020, 07:42:11
Because of the awful weather yesterday, GWR thinned out the timetable owing to the blanket speed restriction across the network. Whilst I have no problem with this sensible move, it meant the London-Exeter semi-fasts were all cancelled as part of the thinning out, leaving Pewsey, Westbury, and Castle Cary with barely any services to and from London.

Pewsey in particular suffered with just four out of 15 services scheduled that day, two early in the day and two right at the end.

Castle Cary and Westbury fared a little better in the UP direction with a couple of fasts calling at these two stations. In the down direction I didn’t see any fasts listed on Journeycheck as calling additionally at these three stations.

Whilst we welcome the new semi-fast trains serving these stations, at times of disruption these are always going to get pulled so it would be good to see the fasts fill the gap in service, something that from what I could see wasn’t happening yesterday, particularly in the down direction..

Another wretched day for those using Pewsey station today with all London bound services diverted after Westbury via Swindon and three down services cancelled owing to late inbound trains.

Westbury and Castle Cary faring better today apart from the three of the semi fasts from London being cancelled - 1035, 1236 and 1638.

Report on another very poor service for Pewsey, Westbury and Castle Cary to/from London on the 16th of February owing to storm Dennis and expresses not stopping to replace the cancelled semi fasts here:

My thanks to member Trowres for doing the research and writing a report on the findings.

Thanks Timmer. Sometimes it's hard to choose where to post. This time, as it was weather-related, I chose the storm topic. However, sadly, I have a feeling that we may need the Pewsey equivalent of Grahame's Melksham cancellation log.

So, for completeness, I have attached a screenshot from RTT of the Sunday Pewsey service.

On a lighter note, one service diverted away from the B&H route was reported as "last report between Bruton and Bristol Temple Meads.
