Title: European Train Travel - May 2020
Post by: Lee on March 02, 2020, 09:53:42
I have a couple of friends, both of whom are aged 65+, who live in the same part of Brittany as I do coming round for dinner tonight. They are doing some European Rail travel between the 22nd May - 29th May. The itinery they wish to follow is below:

GUINGAMP – PARIS

PARIS – ZURICH

ZURICH – SALZBURG

SALZBURG – VIENNA

VIENNA – MUNICH

MUNICH – OBERAMMERGAU

OBERAMMERGAU – MUNICH

MUNICH – PARIS

PARIS – GUINGAMP

I would be very grateful indeed if you could give me a steer as to the cheapest tickets available, where to find them, and how to book them.

As grahame and others will tell you, fares are my achilles heel, so any help very much appreciated!

Oh I do, often! He runs what I would recommend to anyone as the Go To Page on such matters.

Even then though, I tend to glaze over when it comes to fares, particularly when all the various complexities kick in. grahame loves all that stuff of course, as have various members of the team over the years, and I tend to stand aside and let them have their fun with my blessing  ;D

We did muddle through in the end last night though. My love of research, planning and strategy, if not love for the actual fares, kicked in, and it was a lot of fun. Almost wish I was going myself on that itinery!

I do, but I have been drowning!    "ToDo" list of dozens of items!

I'd recommend Deutsche Bahn. As well as having a very easy to use online timetable you can ring them up to book tickets. They have a phone number for English speakers and every time I've used them have been tremendously helpful and efficient.
