The following site has a large number of photographs and document scans showing the signalling transition on the Southern end of the Midland Main Line from mechanical signalling to control from West Hampstead Power Signal Box.  These have been put together by David Blower.  Enjoy a bit of history.  This was part of my patch between 1978 and 1982.

Yes indeed.  I climbed quite a few of those taller ones as well.  When I first started on the patch we were based at St.Pancras Power Box seen in some of the photographs, but we were relocated to West Hampstead Power Box before it was commissioned in October 1979.  Our patch then included the North London Line, West London Line and later 'out of hours' coverage of the Chiltern Lines.  Oh, happy days!

Do you know what the method of working was between there and Dock Junction?  The Sectional Appendix says AB but after a discussion elsewhere it was suggested that this was an error and it was actually TCB.  The article linked only says block working was retained on the goods lnes but the SA also shows the main lines as AB.
