Post by: SandTEngineer on April 12, 2020, 11:49:40
From the May 1972 Western Region Timetable....

(Crikey, amazing that Bristol Parkway has been open for nearly 50 years now!).

Still relatively new, but Parkway had been open 5 years when this picture (https://www.flickr.com/photos/pwakely/17144424535/in/album-72157653685596576/) was taken.

Note the abrupt end of the footbridge to the right of the picture - descending into a relatively small car park.

Off topic alert.  Excellent archive shots thanks PW.  Really dragging the memory cell(s) and many happy thoughts and reminisces  ;D ;D

That photo also caught the route indicator on the signal opposite the train being proved before the main signal below changed to a proceed aspect.

I think its more likely thats the sun reflecting off the junction indicator lenses.  Those were very very prone to phantom aspects.

If they were true phantoms, I would have expected route 2 to light up as well; at least the inboard light.

Two guys in the cab but still looks like they gave up half way through setting the 47’s route indicator panel....

A Position 2 Junction Indicator is better shielded and the sun would need to be much lower to cause a phantom aspect.  I still think the sun is reflecting off the 'close up' segments of the glass lenses.  If thats an AEI-GRS Junction Indicator (looks like one to me), they had conical lenses that reflected light making them appear to be lit when in daylight.  Seen that pleanty of times over the years....
