Title: What was your "last normal" picture? [DotD 17.5.20]
Post by: grahame on May 17, 2020, 06:48:51
Question shamelessly lifted from something the BBC started ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-52693002 ... the last picture you took before lockdown.

Just for 'fun' ... no great conclusions expected from this poll ...

A pic of one of my children on our walk yesterday.

No doubt a transport photo will succeed it whilst I’m back working today.

11th of March, Bell Lime kiln, unusual in that it still has the lime burners hut in front of it.
The house the other side was the Bell Inn, built on the site of a squatters house, built when you had to get the hearth lit within on day! It became a pub, The Heart’s Content.
The power lines are the main south western 400Kv grid.

The last pre-lockdown photo I took was actually Covid-related. It was someone dressed up as (his interpretation of) a Plague Doctor from Camus for World Book Day, which this year was 5th March.

It hadn't quite hit us at that point...

My last picture before lockdown started (https://www.flickr.com/photos/pwakely/49683419156/in/album-72157646971193407/)

And don't be fooled by the apparent weather conditions! As you probably know, Crofton Lock is a two-mile walk along the canal towpath from Bedwyn station and I had not allowed for the towpath being exceptionally muddy! Twice I ended up on my rearside - once just inches from a dip in the water! Opting for the road on the way back, the heavens opened! So, it was an interesting journey home on the train  :-[

A fairly amusing version of a public information poster appearing around Worcester Shrub Hill station last October.

This is my last normal photo taken on 23rd March. It's a picture of a fairly new KFC outside Waterloo Station. The reason I took it was that I was surprised to see the sign "Kentucky Fried Chicken" in the window and wondered if the chain was reverting to their full name.

I hope that isn’t the old Archduke. Is that still there?

I hadn't heard of the Archduke restaurant, but a search tells me it is under the arches in nearby Concert Hall Approach. The pictured KFC is in Mepham Street.

Mines both a pet and a transport picture. Couldn't vote more than once! From Sunday 22nd March.

A chain ferry, Sandbanks perhaps?
Which has had an accident, so could be out of service for some time.

Whilst out of service, the ferry has been moored in Poole Harbour to carry out these works and keep the ferry safe whilst unmanned. However, in the early hours of Friday 8th May, a large piece of concrete unexpectedly detached from the fixed jetty and fell into the ferry. The ferry was not directly attached to or connected with this piece of concrete, but it has resulted in a small but significant amount of damage to the hull. At least one of the main prow hinge fixings is cracked and will need repair using a platform and scaffolding fixed to the deck of the ferry.

As a result, the ferry’s return to service has been delayed until at least the beginning of June whilst this unexpected repair work is carried out, and we await Lloyd’s safety surveyor’s approval. More information on the exact date for the return to service, and social distancing measures for staff & customers alike, will be announced in due course.

Spot on. Was a cracking day weather-wise too.

Either on a ferry or in a ferry queue. Can’t get closer than that.

No great surprises in the result.  It does confirm the specialist bias of this forum - asking around our family cell, Lisa's answer was "art or documentation" - photographs of civil defence cards at the history centre, and Billy has featured in many pictures but never taken any.
