Title: Eight Online Webinars / Fireside chats from TWSW - notes of points discussed
Post by: grahame on June 26, 2020, 15:44:56
From TravelWatch SouthWest (http://www.travelwatchsouthwest.org)

"If you wouild like a quick recap of the conversation over the past 7 sessions in our series;  the Great Western Coffee Shop Forum has put together a compendium below" ...  This is the index to that compendium

Spring 2020 - Online Webinars / Fireside chats. Many thanks for coming along - lots of really useful ideas, summarised at the following links (some really useful follow up material, indexed topic by topic)

1. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200508 - Should we give up on the community ambition for better public transport, and what does “better” mean in the current climate? Could COVID-19 be a catalyst for behavioural shift and a better passenger transport experience?

2. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200515 - Planning for restart and taking the opportunity for lasting change

3. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200522 - Links between public transport and health, as we continue agenda building and aligning Users’ needs with Government Minister Grant Shapps MP’s declared aspirations.

4. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200529 - Finding and delivering in-city solutions to the integral problems with current connectivity.

5. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200605 - Linking Shared and Sustainable Transport. There is broad agreement that alternative transport network must be seamless to usurp the car. But how?

6. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200612 - What will be community rail’s role after covid19? “Community and rail” or “Community Rail” or “Community and sustainable transport”? How can our community members, groupings and organisations best partner forward?

7. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200619 - Active Travel & Public Transport ... Allies or Enemies?

8. http://www.passenger.chat/twsw20200626 - A summation of the previous 7 sessions - AOB and where do we go from here?

"Questions we have asked throughout the series:
1. Did we have a collective vision for public transport?
2. Is any mitigation needed, if so how and by whom, and with what resource (skill, design, fund, participation?) e.g. should cars be planned for? If so how? Will this be affordable for all?
3. Where must the a) direction and b) leadership come from?
4. Is this the moment to act? Could it be that one of the great causes of inertia is reluctance to take unpopular steps.

Dozens of very knowledgable people has spoken over the many hours of these sessions and I have done my best to record accurately what was said - if you spot any errors in what you said, please let me know so that I can correct it.  If you would like to discuss anything further, all these are open forum threads and you are very welcome indeed to register and post.

Currently on a hiatus from the weekly webinars.   It seems that that one thing that coronavirus has not put paid to is the summer holidays / summer breaks from looking to the medium and long term future, and with various key players not available, looks like the restart of these sessions may be early September.  I will keep you posted - writing here / even without anything definite  because several people have asked me.
