Aerial photos show Cambridge's brand new Dutch roundabout in action

The UK's first Dutch roundabout opened in Cambridge last week, giving cyclists, pedestrians and motorists alike the chance to test it out for the first time.

Aerial photographs show motorists and cyclists navigating the finished roundabout on Fendon Road, Cambridge, which has been in use for a week since its unveiling on July 31.

The photos give a comprehensive view of the roundabout, which is designed to be safer for all road users.

Cyclists have an outer ring on the roundabout, with cycle crossings over each of the four approach roads in a contrasting red surface.

There are also zebra crossings over each approach road for pedestrians.

Motorists must give way to pedestrians and to cyclists when joining and leaving the roundabout.

Looks good. The only criticism I have seen is that there are (speed??) humps on the cycle sections when they would be more appropriate on the car sections.

I can't see may other areas following the Cambridge example any suggestions? Doughnut city (Basingstoke) ?

I haven't heard any reports of speed-humps and I can't make them out on the photos. Do you know where they are?

It'll be interesting to see how it goes, and particularly how good motorists are at giving way to bikes that may to some seem to be cutting across their road. Only one of the crossings has full Give Way markings, presumably some regulation or other as it's the only one not immediately next to a zebra.

I suspect there'll be a lot of pedestrians cutting across the cycle lane diagonally (particularly on the left arm) rather than obediently doing a right-angle turn onto the zebra.

There are fears around whether motorists will realise, in sufficient time, that cyclists have a right of way as it is so unique in Britain.
Ignoring the grammar though it makes me wince, we have examples of cyclists being given priority over other traffic in Bristol. Okay, it's South Gloucestershire strictly speaking. Very near BPW. Here's one example, there is at least one other:

Is that a separate incident to the car crashing into the Belisha beacon? I can't find any report of an incident involving a cyclist there.
