Title: More services for the Worcester to Bristol belt?
Post by: CMRail on September 06, 2020, 22:13:28
The MP for Gloucester is suggesting that a new every 30 minute service will launch to Bristol and Worcester be 2021.

I've been 'out of the loop' for trains for a while - is this new news or old news? (Remove if discussed elsewhere)

It's long been an aspiration for the hourly Bristol - Gloucester service with alternate trains extended to Worcester (and Malvern) to be extended every hour, and perhaps that's an idea who's time has come.  With the Cardiff - Nottingham train providing an hourly Gloucester to Worcester(shire) service as well, perhaps that's your twice an hour - especially if the connection into the city is good from Parkway.  North of Bristol Parkway to Yate - perhaps a second service in the hour would be coming and is Gloucester the place to take and turn it

WECA has agreed to extend the scope of MetroWest (https://fosbr.org.uk/metrowest-plans-extended-to-gloucester-and-westbury/) to include 2TPH Bristol-Gloucester. From the press release (https://www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk/the-extension-of-metrowest-rail-services-to-gloucester-and-westbury-is-one-step-closer/) it seems that this is WECA's initiative, though Network Rail, Bristol, South Glos, Gloucestershire and the Western Gateway Partnership (not, notably the Western Gateway STB) all agree that it's a good idea.

It is a good idea (though not necessarily as part of the MetroWest thing). Are there concrete plans for it to happen?
