Title: Swindon, September 2020
Post by: grahame on October 01, 2020, 08:34:18
What a difference a day made!   Tuesday to Bath (http://www.passenger.chat/24065) and Wednesday to Swindon.

Wet and windy ... but what struck me was QUIET unlike the canal towpath.  With an hour to wait for my 'business' in Swindon, I walked up to the Octagon - who turned me away because they were closing for the day. Debenhams is gone with their Costa in the front. Greggs are runnig takeout only. The next Costa along was open - but never the less very quiet.

Torquay harbourside Debenhams is hanging on. The council bought the building and I believe are charging a reduced rent. Now the holiday season is winding down it could still go.

A new nearby hotel (1 of 6 being built in Torbay)  Hampton by Hilton is due to open end of the month/beginning of next month. It should have opened in June/July (the bedrooms fitting out started in March) but delayed by the virus. Security guards are keeping the workmen out of the hotel and associated offices that a solicitors have taken on as their regional hub.

Also in your Debenham's picture I wonder how many use that cash machine now.
