Do you ever find that adverts come up when you're browsing around for the wrong town ...

The lake with boat pontoons is impressive for Dilton Marsh.

I get a lot of adverts stating that my local police recomend the carrying of pepper spray, extendable batons, and otther illegal weapons.
Others invite me to find out the "real cost" of funerals, home improvements and insurance in Bath, which is where google have decided that I live.

Most of us will remember the fatal rail accident at Stonehaven, Scotland. Viewing local newspaper reports about the accident produced adverts "Stonehaven residents find out REAL cost of funerals" Perhaps the worst possible taste under the circumstances.
Other adverts stated that "Stonehaven residents born between 19xx and 19yy rush to claim new benifit" Which was not a benifit at all but an advert for life insurance. Second worst taste ?

Ever since hitting 50 I have started to be bombarded with adverts for funeral plans, life insurance, over 50s dating websites and perhaps most bizarrely, "Brazilian butt lifts"...............possibly the latter two could be connected?

And you start to realise how wide the spray of these things is, just in the hope that one occasionally is correct.

I was much amused by a story that I heard - maybe apocryphal, and I don't know where to credit it - of a small child asked what he wanted for Christmas. He replied 'a funeral plan'. It transpired that he had seen a tv advert which promised a free luxury pen and pencil set with every plan . . .

Have you ever, even just once, purchased on line any product related to earwax ? A single purchase results in continueing adverts for anything related including "Residents of Bath find out REAL cost of hearing aids" and "Bath residents discover new digital hearing aid"

The ads are all the same, it's just a case of <insert placename here depending on where the viewer is located/searching>.

You have to be careful what you do.

Some years ago my brother worked in Belarus for a while, and I went out to stay with him. I did research on-line. My wife then found our spam filter was full of adverts for Russian wives!

I think the trend started with Readers Digest back at the dawn of time. I used to get letters from campaign manager Tom Champagne (his real name apparently) offering me the chance to buy some dodgy encyclopaedia or other, and  "be the envy of all your friends at No Fixed Abode"

I seem to be plagued with adverts about earwax.

Pardon?

That's the thing - I cannot recall doing so.

I think "earwax" is something we may be targeted for without cause.  Comes up in my email / spam too ... analysing my logs:

850 out of the last 3,293,588 emails our server has received in 8 years have include the word "earwax" in the sender or subject. 6,452 have included "russia". 24,592 have included "melksham" and 7,641 have included "coffee". "Retire" has come up 4,140 times and "bride" 1,771. There are 5,406 with "snore" and 11,671 with tinnitus. "Dilton Marsh" where we started is only there 22 times.
