Title: Trewoon bridge replacement March 2021
Post by: LiskeardRich on January 22, 2021, 15:00:32
Just had a photo sent to me of a network rail communication to locals that the Trewoon rail bridge (approx 2miles west of st austell) is being replaced in the first week of March 2021. Haven?t seen anything public but assume it means the line is closed.

Possibly, but I seem to remember when some major work was done on the viaduct at the east end of Liskeard station they did the replacement and kept trains running.

What?s happening?

Network Rail will be working in the East Cornwall area this March to renew two bridges on the main line between Plymouth and Penzance. They will also use the time to renew track to help our services to run more reliably.

To allow this work to take place, train services on the Cornish main line and some branch lines will be changed, with replacement buses operating on some days.

What you need to know:

train services will be affected in different ways on different dates. Check the table below above for more details

replacement buses will run on various routes from Monday 1 to Friday 5 March, and then at weekends on 13/14, 20/21 and 27/28 March

check train times from February ? online journey planners will not show the correct train service until early February. We?ll update this web page when everything is ready

Just dug around on the Cornwall Council site, the Trewoon work affects the main bridge in the centre of the village rather than the three minor structures in the environs. The relevant works order is linked to below

The EAS has the closure from Par-Truro 00:01 Monday 1st to 05:30 Saturday 6th, but describes the work at Trewoon as "Structures: Repairs. All Lines: 76 hours." As well as that work, there are several bits of track renewal booked for 6 days, one of them at Burngullow (i.e. on the Truro side).

The operational note says:
Quote
MIDWEEK BLOCKADE
POSSESSION TO BE TAKEN AFTER PASSAGE OF 5V62 [HEADCODE TO BE CONFIRMED; MAY BE
5Z62].
SERVICES TO START FROM /TERMINATE AT PAR AND TRURO.
RAIL REPLACEMENT SERVICE REQUIRED PAR - ST. AUSTELL - TRURO.

ACCESS TO THE NEWQUAY BRANCH / ST. BLAZEY UNAFFFECTED

Mentioned on a community page it was behind schedule.

I drew the short straw doing the 0345 Penzance to par coach. Signing on at Bodmin outstation at 0210. Plus side finished just after 9.

To date all services operated by Truronian (First southwest’s coaching arm) with 100% Psvar vehicles. I know David is pleased with this from his Facebook commenting.

Its not just rail passengers who are involved. The St Austell to Newquay main road is closed as well while the bridge work goes on.

Have the siding stubs at St Austell been taken out as well?

PS - Happy St Piran's Day to those from/connected with Kernow.
