Title: List of level crossings?
Post by: grahame on January 26, 2021, 06:56:08
I was looking for a list of level crossings ... came across this old FOI request and answer via What do they know? (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/332043/response/806910/attach/html/2/FOI2016%2000509%20Response.pdf.html)

Thank you for your request of 1st May 2016. You requested the following information:

Could i please see a full list of all Level Crossings in the UK including the type
(eg Full Barrier / Half Barrier / Open Barrier / etc) and location and full details
of the Level Crossing (eg Road / Lights / Alarms / Barriers / etc) as well.

I have processed your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (FOIA).

Please note that Network Rail maintains the railway infrastructure for Great Britain
and not for the United Kingdom so we would not be able to provide level crossing
information within Northern Ireland.

I can confirm that we hold the information you have requested however, under
section 21 of the FOIA, we are not required to provide information in response to a
request if it is reasonably accessible to you by other means.

The information you have requested is publically available to view and download on
our website and you can access it by following the link below.

Slight problem - following the link gives me "403 forbidden" and suggests I search the Network Rail site ... which seems strong on publicity on level crossing dangers, with listings no-where that I could find.  Can anyone give me a new URL?

There is Network Rail's full dataset (Excel) (https://www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Level-Crossings-data-August-2020.xlsx) as of August 2020, available from the page with their national map (https://www.networkrail.co.uk/communities/safety-in-the-community/level-crossing-safety/).

I also found this third-party map (https://www.emu-analytics.com/levelcrossings/) which I presume is driven off the same data.
