Title: Stocks Overbridge Post by: 1st fan on January 31, 2021, 00:14:06 The line between Kingham and Moreton In Marsh has the above bridge over it. The bridge isn't in a great state of repair on one side and is in need of repair. Network Rail decided to replace rather than repair it. Construction firm Graham have been appointed and have started work. They've closed the road either side of it and brought in sections that will eventually become a bridge. The bad news is that apparently they will be taking three 30hr possessions of the line to do this.
The work is expected to take until the end of May. So if using the line it would be as well to check your journey carefully for closures/over runs. But those Sundays are imminent: February 14/21/18. The road closure notice runs to 25th May, but there's no further possessions booked. So, provided nobody drops anything big and heavy ...
What you really need to look out for is the 7-day blockade, from 29th May to 4th June, of the line from Moreton In Marsh to Worcester. There are some very large bridge pieces and other construction pieces in the field next to the bridge. There's also a small army in that field ready to do battle. Hopefully the recent lovely weather hasn't delayed anything. I normaly take a weekley walk that goes past the end of George lane in Wyre. Next time I am out that way I will go and have a look. It is not possible for the next couple of days due to flooding. An alternative derivation is 'Moreton in March', with 'march' being an old English word for boundary. It derives from the town being on what was a rather patchy border between counties. During wet weather the surrounding fields are frequently under water.
