When are the Pacers fully going to leave Transport for Wales?

Can anybody tell me how many new class of Trains are coming to Transport for Wales?

Somewhere (last December?) we had derogation lists - but I can't see that thread straight away. For Transport for Wales, class 142 and class 153 trains were listed as being allowed into this year in spite of not meeting new standards.    At lease one 153s already has a disabled loo and meets new standards, and I think more are to be dealt with in that way; as I recall, the class 142 might go by May?   In practise, TfW have reduced services considerably in some places at the moment and I don't know if the 142s are actually still running there.

I have merged in your linked question on "how many classes" to this thread - logically they go together. No attempt to answer from me - there are other who are around from time to time who can answer far better than I can on that!

I'm not sure what the official line is but I haven't seen a Pacer in service since the lockdown timetable change (commuting once or twice a week so I might not have seen if one or two are running); a number of them seem to be sleeping in Landore. Many/most Valley workings are to be 2 cars atm, so the Sprinters can cope; I think there are some 4 car 150 formations on the Rhymneys along with a 769 diagram but not enough 4-cars to need the Pacers, it seems.

As lockdown is eased 4 car trains will be needed for the Valleys to maintain social distancing - during the previous inter-lockdown periods the timetable was still reduced enough to allow this to be workable. Typically 150+14x, so there was always an accessible toilet, although it wasn't unknown for a double Pacer to turn up (which might not be allowed at all now). If lockdown is eased before enough 769s are in service I imagine some Pacers will need to return to service, unless some other solution is found. I can see the full pre-Covid timetable being a struggle if it comes back without Pacers around.

New as in brand new? If so, I think your answer is '3 or 4':

• Class 197 'Civity'
• Class 231 'FLIRT'
• Class 756 'FLIRT'
• Class 398 'Citylink'

Yes, there are four items in that list, but you asked how many new classes of train were coming and I'm not sure if the class 398s should be counted as trains. That's because the class 398s will be 'tram-trains', capable of on-street running (a capability which initially is intended to be used only on one short stretch of new track in Cardiff Bay).

Also incoming to Transport for Wales are some cascaded mark 4 coaches (from LNER) and class 230 units (former London Underground D-stock converted to run on diesel) - both of which may be in service by the end of this year (2021).
