Title: Improving local infrastructure - better walking and cycling access to stations

Frequent posters will have read in "And Also" (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/24861) that I am standing for my local Town Council.  Much of the stuff I'm doing in campaigning does not relate to travel, but some elements do and I'm sharing one of these here.   Are there similar examples in other towns, where there's a road that's unsafe / impractical for walkers and cyclists - and because of that a residential are that SHOULD be within normal walking distance of the station is not?

So what? Typically people (and that includes your neighbours and yourself) will walk 15 minutes (source - via Mendip Council) to a railway station on a regular basis ...

You could probably say similar about parts of Reading. The other issue is bike security at station, or lack of it. But I think you probably need examples from smaller urban areas, there must be some that members of the forum can highlight.
