Poll to inform - thinking about travel this summer.   Today's the day that my second injection is said to be fully effective, and I'm looking forward to being a darned sight more mobile than I was last year.   Lisa's ahead of me ... by about two minutes!  ;D

But with especial thought to those members who have been effected by Coronavirus - themselves, family, friends, colleagues.  Some have been lost along the way and the pain is intense.  Others feel and have felt the aftereffects for many months.  My thoughts with you.

I was very late with my first jab for logistical reasons (which I won't bore anyone with) so many of my age group will be looking to have their second one soon while mine is still some way off.  Going by official Covid guidelines though, my jab at two and a half weeks old, should start to offer some protection fairly soon.  Until then, my weekend disco suit stays in the wardrobe!

I'm the "none as yet", as they have only just opened up for my age group in France.

Along with SWTSMBO 1st jabs, at the Westpoint 'cattle shed', way back on 28th February. Not much in the way of side effects for either of us. 2nd jabs tomorrow somewhere in the environs of the Greendale Business Park after Westpoint restarted commercial operations at the end of April. Rather than send all booked 'jabees' an electronic update the NHS have apparently (Devon Live report so it must be true!) just decided to erect some roadside signs directing their customers to the new location.

I'm just waiting to be invited for the second jab which should be due very soon. I believe that most people book their second at the same time as the first but for some reason the NHS division handling me do it differently.

I got my first and second booking together.

I arrived early and have now been pfizered

Mrs K is worried because she didn't get any side effects 2nd time out.

I thought the standard reckoning was that a booster is much less likely to cause a reaction. But maybe that's only true of serious reactions - when I had my second one they didn't have a sit-for-fifteen-minutes chair park, they just quizzed us about what happened the first time. I didn't expect or see any bad effects; I did have a sore neck the next day but that was probably just a sore neck (not the first).

While my first one was almost the last day announced for my cohort, the second one was exactly the last day within twelve weeks. Again there was a phone call the day before, but this time we were in the surgery (hence chair space) rather than the methodist hall. At least the queue outside was warmer (and the rain held off).

When I had my 2nd (Pfizer-Biontech) vaccination on 5th May I was told that people were tending to have more side-effects (which were similar to actual Covid) with the second jab compared to the first. Also we still had to sit in the waiting area for 15 minutes afterwards.

However I had the same side-effects with both vaccinations, which was just an ache in the arm, which disappeared after 3-4 days.

I learned today that an old man (about 67) I know recently caught Covid despite having had both doses of vaccine. However, he has generally poor health (due mainly but not entirely to a lifetime of heavy drinking and smoking).

It doesn’t stop you catching it, it reduces the effects of catching it as the vaccine trains your body to fight it quicker

I do not regard aged 67 as old!  You need to be over 80 to be regarded as old by the NHS (i.e. to be treated by a specialist in geriatrics)!

Had my second dose of AZ on 12th May. Same 24hrs of side effects, flu like, as first dose. Mild arm ache continues.

Ah, the youth of today! Always ready to disagree.

The point is that although he is in his 60s, he looks and to an extent moves as if he were in his 80s.

Statistically, everyone over 41 is old in the UK, that being the population's median age.*

*Edit: For the curious, or to assuage or enrage anyone feeling mis-aged, I am 53. Over 125% old statistically!

But actually the real point is that you can catch covid after two doses of vaccination.

... and that is particularly likely if your immune system is not in good shape.

Indeed.  Common sense and caution still very much required - especially but not limited to those who were more vulnerable in the first place.

Thank you to all the passengers customers members who took part.  Nearly 60% of us have had two injections, and over 90% have had at least one.  Others are waiting (I suspect the youngsters amongst us).  And - within our group which may be unrepresentative of the population as a whole, not one "anti-vax" person - or at least no-one admitted to it.
