Title: Plymouth -Penzance on a 158
Post by: GWR 158 on July 29, 2021, 10:08:31
Hi all,

Quick question, What services from Plymouth to Penzance are worked by class 158s? I have heard they work some services that way during peak times.

Can't give you a list, I'm afraid, but a good number of Plymouth-Penzance services are worked by 158s now.  150s have been banished from these services, except in emergency, and the service is now provided by 158s, Castle Class HSTs and the London IETs, plus the few CrossCountry Voyagers.

The 2C07 is booked a Castle       Go to RTT and have a look which trains show a Timing Load of 100 mph and these are 158s. The Castles are shown as such at 110 mph are the IERs at 125 mph..  The Timing loads in these instances correspond with the type of traction.

Amended Timetable due COVID traincrew shortages

I regularly use or at least see 2C07 and it’s a 158 more often than not.

It started off as a Castle at the Timetable change but there have been STP alterations since which seem to be COVID related
