Title: Stagecoach buses - Plymouth
Post by: TaplowGreen on September 08, 2021, 18:02:33
I'm working in Plymouth for a few weeks, thankfully I don't need to rely on buses but those that Stagecoach operate locally seem to be pretty chaotic....mass cancellations, shortage of drivers etc.....Citybus seem to be holding up OK, but any ideas from those "in the know" what the problem is? Brexit dividend perhaps?

In my area of Plymouth, Citybus serves us. It isnt that good actually. Certainly could not rely on into work. Cancellations shown at last minute and I have heard from the local Forum for my area that a wait of 90 minutes has occurred a few times. There should be 2 an hour on 40/41 and a 42A once an hour. The latter is genuinely more reliable but not always. What the cause of this is I dont know, but bus drivers get paid awfully for their shifts.

Lots of Stagecoach drivers have jumped ship to Citybus lately.

All companies short of drivers.
In Cornwall both companies have expanded their base routes, but struggling for drivers.
Schools and colleges have now returned, so extra drivers and vehicles required, so it's possible normal service runs could have been pulled in favour of the contracted work.
