Title: British Airways operates passenger flight using recycled cooking oil
Post by: TaplowGreen on September 17, 2021, 16:51:01

...........as we learn that IETs are pumping out more pollution than the traffic in Central London, it seems that airlines, so often the popular whipping boys in some quarters, are leading the way in using sustainable fuels and reductions in CO2 emissions.........

I appreciate this is old news - and has probably already been mentioned on this forum somewhere (https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2021/09/class-66-locomotive-powered-by-vegetable-oil-displayed-at-glasgow-central.html)

One flight using a small percentage of used cooking oil is not exactly "leading the way"

Only limited supplies of used cooking oil are available, and supplies are liable to reduce and not to increase. I would prefer that used cooking oil be used for higher priority purposes such as fire engines, ambulances, railway freight, air ambulance and the like.

Flying should be discouraged by taxing aviation fuel to the same extent as road fuel, and not giving any form of grant or subsidy to airlines, airports, airplane builders and related industries, with the possible reluctant exception of SMALL subsidies for flights to remote islands not otherwise accessible.

Just wait for the government campaign to get us all to eat deep fried food to save the airline industry planet!
