Travelling on a train in Ireland - DART from Dún Laoghaire to Dublin
Eaten a curry on a train - FGW/GWR Pullman
Been on a Cross Country train from Bath - Diverted service
Dined in a Restaurant Car - FGW/GWR, GNER/NXEC, Anglia Railways, Arriva Trains Wales, Caledonian Sleeper
Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed - Closed to passengers, yes. Acton Wells to West London Jcn on CrossCountry services to Brighton via Kenny O
Driven a train - Does on PC/Xbox count?!
Caught a train to or from Pilning - Yes, in the days when it had an open footbridge. Walked there from Severn Beach
Had a train stop at a request stop for you - One that springs to mind is Thornford
Ridden in a class 801 unit - KGX-SVG and return
Stood on Class 153 - Many times to/from Shirehampton
Been to Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station - Soon after opening, just to 'tick' it off
"Bought" a zero cost excess - Yes after much debate, obfuscation and complaining at Paddington
Left the station in Taunton - Of course. Lived there for 20 years.
Caught a train to or from Melksham - How else does one meet our lord and master?!
Helped a fellow passenger lift their luggage on or off a train  Does helping the GWR Pullman crew unload count?
Used an easement - Often for Bristol to Birmingham trips. I've no idea what Bromsgrove's like beyond the station!
Travelled on a Groupsave ticket - Yes. And on CrossCountry too, despite their 'rule'
Overslept your station - Only once. Red wine was involved. Unplanned night in hotel in Birmingham. CrossCountry kindly let me return to Bristol gratis the following morning
Gone the long way round to avoid a rail replacement bus -  Last one springs to mind: Bristol Parkway - Gloucester - Cardiff Central to avoid a coach between BPW - CDF
Used a split ticket - Will always investigate that option
Visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch -  And I can make a fair stab at pronouncing it
Caught a through train from London to Newquay or Tenby - Other direction. Newquay to Paddington
Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy  A few times at Paddington due to disruption. 90 minutes in the Mad Bishop & Bear is infinitely preferable to standing to Bristol TM
Used Plusbus - A great product that needs better promotion
Used a rover or ranger ticket - Regularly before I passed my driving test. Plan to use a Devon Day Ranger in the coming days. Would like to do another ALR
Changed trains at Westbury That's all Westbury's for isn't it?!
Changed trains at Worcestershire Parkway - Alighted, took photos, then continued journey. Does that count?
Travelled on the DLR -  First time as a 15 year old in 1988 on my first trip to London on my own. To the original Island Gardens station then walked to Greenwich
Been to Media City on rails - Yep, just for the ride
Travelled the Rhubarb Loop - Several times
Understood all of the above without having to look up any definitions - Yep!

30. Or 31 if we allow train driving sims!

Dined in a Restaurant Car - Southern region to Waterloo in the 60s.  Breakfast to Paddington on a 125
Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed - the S&D

Been to Ebbw Vale by train - on a Valleys rail tour in the 1970s.
Travelled on the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry
Left the station in Taunton
Helped a fellow passenger lift their luggage on or off a train
Travelled through the Channel Tunnel
Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy
Travelled on the DLR▸
Understood all of the above without having to look up any definitions

As author of the original list ... there are many things I have done on there, but also a selection still in my "bucket list", some (co-incidenatlly) I have not done, and some I have no desire to do.   Noting others are highlighting experiences ...

Been on a Cross Country train from Bath
! And a bl**dy early start in the morning that was too!

Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed
! Too many - these all on standard service trains
! March to Spalding to Boston to Firsby
! Firsby to Skegness
! Firsby to Lincoln
! Haltwhistle to Alston
! Balloch [Central] to Balloch Pier
! Glasgow to Bridgetown Cross
! Craigendoran Pier platforms
! Uckfield to Lewes
! Tunbridge Wells Central to Eridge
! Taunton to Minehead
! Paignton to Kingswear
! New Holland [Town] to New Holland Pier
! Selby to York via the swing bridge
Edit to Add ! Dover Marine
Further edit
! Wareham to Swanage
! Shanklin to Ventnor

Crossed the Atlantic by ship
! Three times!

Gone a long way round to avoid a rail replacement bus
! Melksham to Swansea changing at Swindon, Newport and Craven Arms is memorable

Caught a through train from London to Newquay or Tenby
! Yes, though not though on a schedules train - Merrymaker from Euston to Tenby!

Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy
! I think only on the underground, though!

I've got off and on at Westbury, and passed through, but never changed trains..!

You've got me bang to rights on Pilning though. One day!

If this is an attempt to get me to part with personal data in order to hack my passwords, it's a particularly clever one. I can see bits of my most commonly used password phrases in at least five of the entries!

It isn't, Phil ... I admit I was wondering if I would get that question, and phrased the original post so that people could feel able to answer with just a number and a couple of comments if they wished!

One extra perhaps
Used Plusbus Don't need to with bus pass

Err ... before 09:30, or are you not out and about that early?

I need to go back and edit Swanage and Ventnor into my answer.

Just under 30, subject to judge's decision. Disappointingly I see the rhubarb loop isn't around the rhubarb triangle, and nearly got caught out by Platform 14..

Travelling on a train in Ireland  And the DART
Eaten a curry on a train  Hasn't everyone?
Been on a Mystex▸  Happy memories of the BR Merrymakers as a child, though my parents eventually decided we were going on too many when the Mystery trip went to the same place as the named destination trip the week before...
Dined in a Restaurant Car  Only on heritage railways and Orient Express
Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed  Swanage is the only one of any significance. Pleasingly I've been on more that have reopened.
Driven a train  Under heavy supervision
Caught the train to Barton-on-Humber  ...and over to Hull on the ferry
Had a train stop at a request stop for you  3 times in one day. Same guard, slightly embarrasing.
Ridden in a class 801 unit  Presumably. As noted elsewhere they all look the same.
Been to Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station  Only the once
"Bought" a zero cost excess  Duly stapled to the original so it wouldn't go through the gates
Travelled on the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry  With a bike
Left the station in TauntonLast weekend. Whose bright idea was it to move the Minehead bus stop from its convenient location right outside the station and hide it a 5 minute walk away?
Helped a fellow passenger lift their luggage on or off a train  Doesn't everyone unless they can't?
Done the gardening at a station  Guerilla weeding while waiting for a train
Used an easement  No proof, but must have done
Travelled on a Groupsave ticket  Though it may have been called something else then
Overslept your station  Most memorably on a strike day when I was on the only train running and it wasn't coming back for several hours.  Luckily only a mile or so to walk back again.
Gone the long way round to avoid a rail replacement bus  Good grief yes!
Used a split ticket  generally because I have a pass for one section rather than to take advantage of fare anomalies
Visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch  ...and Rye, Ash and Ore
Travelled through the Channel Tunnel  Shuttle and Eurostar
Caught a through train from London to Newquay or Tenby  Does from Tenby count?
Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy  Numerous times. Long-distance being able to see the next train already in the platform helps!
Used Plusbus  Must do it more.
Used a rover or ranger ticket  Best was the Yorkshire Ranger. Cost £10.45 for a week and I calculated I'd done 1,044.5 miles
Changed trains at Westbury  Can't think why not!
Travelled on the DLR▸...and walked through several tunnels.
Been to Hainault on the tube  There's worse places

    8/50

  • Driven a train - Many years ago on an industrial railway
  • Left the station in Taunton
  • Travelled on a Groupsave ticket - Yes Bedwyn to Paddington
  • Visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - not by train
  • Travelled through the Channel Tunnel - many times
  • Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy - most memorably I got off the 18.30 Paddington to Swansea on Friday 8th September 1995 (https://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/docsummary.php?docID=401) as it was too crowded - A very good decision even if the next train only got me home in the early hours of the following morning!
  • Used a rover or ranger ticket  - not recently but many years ago
  • Changed trains at Westbury

There's a few missing from the list.

Alighted at Camborne on a Wednesday
Made a lateral shift and parallel move to reach Mornington Crescent
Caught a witching hour train to the Goober State

But train don't stop ....

I decided to stop at 50 rather than go on to 60, 75, 80 or even 100.

I must get out more - only 11 - one doubles up I think!.

I have had curry on a train - in India.

Driven a train (up to 6 thanks to my wife buying me Footex days three times as presents (one involving two locomotives), my mother in law doing so once and I once paid £5 to drive a diesel shunter up and down a platform at Kingswear.  I can tell you that the regulator on Tornado is much less pleasant to use than the one on a (real) Castle!

Stood on a 153 between Sowton and Digby and Exeter Central around 10 years ago

Helping other passengers with luggage is a regular part of life on the North Downs Line, with all the Gatwick traffic

Easements and and longer route to avoid rail replacement bus - using the Basingstoke - Woking - Guildford zigzag when the North Downs has been closed.

Overslept after boozy evening early in 1986 and slept in a waiting room in Swindon

Let a busy train go because it was too full - on a few occasions

Channel Tunnel - several times, as train passenger and with car, and as coach passenger on Shuttle - looking forward to being able to do it again soon

DLR - about 4 times

Got on or off a train at Coombe Junction - No, but I have changed trains at Bourne End

Hmm .. that looks like a supermarket substitution - "Sorry - no Blueberry Cheesecake, so we have substituted Stilton Blue Cheese".   Good try ;-)

Now that Lee has drawn my attention to this, I can't help thinking it sounds like something out of Roger's Profanisaurus...

Dined in a Restaurant Car
- a few times, prior to 1984, Newcastle to Kings Cross, back then allowed in the restaurant on a standard fare, so effectively first class travel for the price of a meal.
Travelled on a line that was part of the main network and is now closed
- Alnwick branch, and Tyneside riverside loop, and Tyne Dock to South Shields via the old BR route nearer the river. I won’t count the parts of the Tyneside system that were converted to Metro as they’re mostly still there and in use.
Driven a train
- twice (although under extremely close supervision) once in Alnwick goods yard, and later on a works train lifting the Alnwick branch.
Been to Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station
- just because it’s there, like Everest.
"Bought" a zero cost excess
- not quite, but successfully negotiated my way out of an attempt to charge a suspect excess (via Westbury!)
Travelled on the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry
- once just to tick it off.
Crossed the Atlantic by ship
- 3 return trips (if you count getting to Antigua via the South Atlantic and returning direct).
Helped a fellow passenger lift their luggage on or off a train
- yes a couple of times
Overslept your station
- aiming for Newcastle, had to overnight in Morpeth. Got very early bus back.
Travelled through the Channel Tunnel
- two return trips, one on the first day at St Pancras
Let your originally planned train go because it was too busy
- on LU a few times
Used a rover or ranger ticket
- a few, but a highlight was using a bus red rover on the tube all day - in late sixties I think.
Changed trains at Westbury
- a few times en route to/from Plymouth but not since about 1982
Travelled on the DLR
- many times
