Title: Saving Bristol to Waterloo - how you can help - Facebook post
Post by: grahame on November 19, 2021, 04:02:00
For those of you who have been reading the news, the headline in this image is only for the Midlands and North. Here in Wiltshire, our Conservative government is axing all through trains from London to Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon and Oldfield Park in just 4 weeks, and reducing through trains from London to Keynsham and to Warminster to just a single train each day.

We are fighting something of a rearguard action here - but still have a chance, I believe.  If you have not yet done so, please sign my petition at https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/598397 and ask family, friends and colleagues too, please. Please write to your MP - there's a sample letter which you can tune at http://www.passenger.chat/mpletter.html . Much more about this (if you want to read up on it) via http://www.passenger.chat/index.html .

A huge THANK YOU to those of you who have already supported this. A pragmatic political solution is needed and the issue is beginning to be noticed. In the House of Commons yesterday, Dr Andrew Murrison who's constituency includes Trowbridge said "Will he throw my constituents a small crumb by delaying the planned closure of services from Bristol Temple Meads to Waterloo via Trowbridge and Salisbury, pending a proper consultation that will show very clearly that the South Western Railway service he thinks duplicates services run by Great Western Railway is over capacity now and certainly will be once he closes the SWR service?". Sadly, the minister spoke of his visit to Okehampton where passenger trains are starting again this weekend, and told Dr Murrison that we have to think of the country as a whole. But the message is reaching high places, and the minister really needs to think of the whole country too.
