3. Looks like the Battersea Rail Bridge on the West London Line

Sidenote - TonyN - huge "thank you" (and to eightonedee yesterday) for setting this advent quiz - great fun and a real pleasure to be able to take part for a change.  It's fun to set quizzes (hint to others) but funner if I can also take part occasionally.

You beat me to it by a couple of minutes!

6 is just north of there, where the disused line linking the Cotswold Line to the Bicester line crosses the Oxford Canal.

Ah ... I think I would have to on balance to give it to paul7575 - on the grounds that I looked at stuving's post and understood it to be challenging my answer rather than answering the next picture, and Paul probably did the same.    It's "only" lighter side, so awards / honourable mention to both gentlemen, me thinks!

I think really the silly mistake was mine - in too much of a hurry - or it was a brilliant way of sabotaging my own efforts!

1.May the Forth 1471.

8.You would have got very wet here today.

9.A Through branch line serving a Cotswold Brewery village in its day.

10.I walked from Q11 via lunch at a National trust property.

12.Branch to Winstons birthplace.

Likewise, I know 1 (because I've boated under it, on the way to turn round after the public moorings) and 12 (haven't actually boated past it but have walked it!), and if no one has got them by the time I log on tomorrow...

Will accept that answer its at Shipton on Cherwell but is over the Oxford Canal not the river.

The Woodstock branch started at Kidlington station and ran alongside the main line until just north of the Cherwell bridge and then turned west to cross the canal here. The wide trackbed is still visible.

9. Disused Bridge, (or is it a viaduct), over the Cherwell just south of Kings Sutton, on the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct route. As seen from the canal towpath. Brewery clue is Hook Norton?

1 is Tewkesbury, where the old Ashchurch–Malvern line crosses the lower level of the River Avon. There's a mooring basin just beyond it, beneath the weir. We've often moored just downstream of the picture, by the 90s flats, then continued into the basin to turn round.

I should have checked the OS map. Google wrongly says River Cherwell!

It’s complicated along there, from memory I believe that is the original river channel through Shipton, or maybe just the bit through “Thrupp Wide”, but they built a new artificial channel to divert the main flow of the river.

Correct Brewery is Hook Norton. The bridge or viaduct had a metal span over the Oxford canal that has been removed. Picture taken from the towpath.

8 The presence of two phases to the bridges suggest the line has been doubled from 2 to 4 tracks, so perhaps Dawlish Warren?

For 8 - since it's the only one left there's no scope for a mistake this time - I'll go for the next one along again. The next separate place to Dawlish going south is Holcombe, and there's a brick-vaulted passageway for beach access and storm water egress on Smuggler's Lane that looks just right.

Stuving is correct. The reason for the two phases is the original atmospheric line was single track, it was later doubled.
This was also the site of Parsons tunnel box. Famous for being so small you had to take the armchair outside to turn it round.

Just as an aside. I walked along part of the River Avon path at Sea Mills recently, which went under the railway line on the far side of the river Trym from Sea Mills station. Looking up at the bridge from the path, it looked in very poor condition, so much so that I would be quite worried next time I use the Severn Beach line in that area.
