22 September is World Car Free Day, when all around the world towns and cities allow people to experience streets free of motor traffic.

It's a great chance to re-imagine our streets around people.

Sounds a good idea and at least a partial break from the generally accepted view that car traffic should be ever growing.

22 september is a THURSDAY

It's like Christmas - fixed date and can fall any day of the week. In the UK at least, Car Free Day is LESS successful than Christmas Day in keeping road traffic down ...

International Car-Free Day is celebrated every year on September 22 to motivate motorists to give up their cars for a single day.

Seen as a great opportunity to reduce air pollution, International Car-Free Day promotes walking and cycling along with a safer environment as its benefits.

There was once a serious proposal to adopt a new calendar, whereby any fixed calendar date would always fall on the same day of the week. The "Eastman calendar" was one such.

Jan first would always be a Monday, with every other day following as they do now. The last day of the year would be a special day WITHOUT a day of the week. Call it "peace day" or something else suitable.
The last day of the year that DID have a day of the week  would be a Sunday, followed by the peace day, with no day of the week. The next day would be Monday, first day of the new year.
In a leap year the last TWO days of the year would be special days with no day of the week.
