Great Western Coffee Shop

The gardens at Great Chalfield Manor - between Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham - will be open between 2 and 4 p.m. on Sunday 27 February (postponed from 20 February), so that visitors can see the snowdrops. Admission £5 per person; proceeds to Dorothy House.

Although it's a National Trust property, I'm guessing that this is a special opening as the gardens aren't scheduled to open until later in spring.  Together with The Courts NT gardens in the nearby village of Holt you have the makings of a splendid day out....especially The Courts, which I rate very highly.I

Edit to add that although not NT, the Peto Gardens in the also nearby Iford are quite remarkable too.

A number of gardens in the area open at weekends in February just for the snowdrops. Margery Fish’s garden at East Lambrook has the national collection of snowdrops and was worth visiting. Two others we visited, Forde Abbey and Mapperton House, were suffering from the lateness of the flowers thus year.
All three were very busy, probably, like us, people were just glad to be out and about among this sign of spring.

I've now attempted to attach a couple of (reduced) pictures of Great Chalfield below. The snowdrops were a little windswept and bedraggled this year, unsurprisingly, but it was a lovely sunny afternoon.

We'd planned to take up johnneyw's suggestion and visit The Courts as well, but our start was delayed by a flat battery, and so we only had time for Great Chalfield. We'll have to come back for The Courts and Iford another time.
