Dear Members and Friends of Melksham Transport User Group,

This evening (Wednesday, 18th May 2022), 19:30, we have meet on Zoom (or in real life in The Cottage at our place if you prefer) ... Melksham Transport User Group "Fireside Chat", update, informal meeting. The  (Annual) General Meeting back in September, to include maintenance work (thanks, JH, for the prelimiaries on that) to ensure it's fully inclusive of buses as well as trains, and that we set out our stall forward.

Our group has done great things over the years (Some would suggest that Melksham would no longer have a station if it did not exist) but the train campaign "regain and retain an appropriate service" remains incomplete . In my view - an appropriate service would be a train calling at least once an hour in each direction, and operating with less than 2% cancellations.

I am delighted that on Monday, our Town Council selected Pat Aves to continue as the Town Rep on the group, and Sue Mortimer - the new deputy mayor - to join us too. This will be the first meeting in decades that Peter Blackburn is not formally our chair; in case I have any new readers, with health issues and advancing years Peter has stepped down, accepting a title of "President" in honour and recognition of his service - we'll ratify and celebrate that in September, and look to appointing an updated team of officers - your current team recommends a stronger formallity on confirming / registering membership as we do this.  With all these changes just happening, much thought to be given ahead of September.

I expect ( ;-) ) Lee (Fletcher) to be with us from France; Lee's work on buses (current) and trains before that is inspirational and I can't thank him enough. Lee will be able to update us on the bus picture in the county, I will add comment on a couple of local issues, and also fill you in on train stuff. Summer marketing discussion too - observant locals may have notices new train timetables on display from Sunday in the Town Centre and there are modest improvements there.

Meeting scheduled to start at 19:30 ... been in the calandar for a year, but a late clash has been added by the Town Council's Environment and Climate Working Group - also in my heart.  Although I'm the "meeting host" it should start without me as I'll show my face at ECWG then dash 5 minutes down the road to join you. I look forward to seeing you there.  Don’t panic if the Zoom session doesn’t start promptly - I have changed the settings so that it should, but the final test has to be in the “doing” and Murphy’s law remain strong in Wilthshire!
