Title: Catch The Bus month, 2022
Post by: grahame on June 22, 2022, 06:56:37
From Inteligent Transport (https://www.intelligenttransport.com/transport-news/136926/uk-charity-catch-bus-month-september-2022/)

Quote
UK charity Bus Users is calling on passengers, operators, local authorities, passenger groups and community transport providers to get on board for ‘Catch the Bus Month’ in September 2022.

This will be the first year that the charity has hosted the campaign since Greener Journeys handed it over in 2020. While many people have now returned to schools, offices and social events, public transport passenger numbers have remained below pre-pandemic levels.

Bus Users wants this campaign to celebrate the bus as a sustainable, inclusive and accessible form of transport that reduces congestion, improves air quality and provides access to better life opportunities.

Hopefully "inclusive and accessible form of transport" will be meaningful and we can get past the stupid business of folded bikes have to be put in a bag. WHY?

I am told it's to protect both the fabric of the bus and fellow passengers from sharp corners, and oil and other dirt which may be in the bike.

I’ve seen a few rips of fabric from those unbagged. Usually summer dresses.

Sorry it is a red rag thing for me.

... and shopping trolleys?

The wheeled luggage-style trolley things, that as we progress in age, helps us to carry a few tins and packages home!

My issue with shopping trolleys is when they are used as battering rams, by a minority, and not always of advanced years.

"On trains and buses?" Not had the bag problem on trains, there are plenty of other issues for non-folding bikes there.

On the evidence of last weekend, there is no longer (?) the bag problem on the Southampton - Cowes jet foils as they now have bike racks.

Part of my issue that the bike is effectively a mobility aid for me.
