Has the correct business partner been chosen?   Would it be a bus company that's already been struggling to run its normal scheduled bus service?

Interesting cancellations,

Twelve services,
eight cancelled B.P. to Newport and only
four cancelled Newport to B.P.

Having said that, don't think its much of a problem,as most of the cancelled services seem to be Patchway and Severn Tunnel.
Head to Newport and get on one of the half hourly cross country services to STJ.

All bus companies are struggling.
Down here, daily cancellations of service runs are pretty common.

I think the "business partner" is basically a clearing house which hires in and organises vehicles and drivers from various bus/coach companies hence the variety of liveries often seen on rail replacements; it's too big a requirement just to go to any one company as they're unlikely to have that many spare drivers and vehicles just waiting for a one-off hire. If the operators don't have the staff there's little the hirer can do, and changing to another contractor won't change the overall shortage of drivers (the mention of being unable to source vehicles is probably just poor wording).

Very interesting article from Roger French on First bus reorganisation -

A reverse move for First

First Bus has announced a major shake up of the management structure of its subsidiary companies which will cut costs particularly senior managers and overheads. It's a laudable aim as Government Covid financial support comes to an end in a couple of months time and with passenger numbers still 80% of ‘normal’ expectations a raft of cuts to services is inevitable in the autumn.
But, oh dear, oh dear, if inflation and industrial unrest are taking us back to the bad old days of the 1970s, First's proposed reorganisation has all the hallmarks of recreating the disastrous period for the Group in the 1990s when management became ever more remote from operations on the ground due to completely unworkable mergers of the company's operating areas along with centralised edicts and overbearing control.
And here we go again.

Again, from Roger French

To cap it all … a £2 limit
Now it seems Johnson and Shapps have seen the potential for eye catching positive headlines from an initiative of this kind throughout England so expect a conveniently timed diversionary announcement with the usual flourish (incorporating a visit to a bus garage with high-vis wearing poses for the assembled photographers) just as soon as the next Tory sex scandal breaks in a few weeks..

Current return fare from our place to the Job Centre (they closed the one in my town) is £7.  With a reduction to a £4 fare, how would the bus operator make up for the shortfall in income? Reduced service frequency, perhaps with bigger vehicles, some routes being cut completely (so that fares no longer existed) or in some other way?
