Title: Infrastructure issues in Cornwall - 2022 onwards
Post by: GBM on February 08, 2022, 07:33:24
From Journeycheck Delays to services between Taunton and Exeter St Davids
Due to a fault with the signalling system at Exeter St Davids some lines are closed. Disruption is expected until 09:15 08/02.
Train services between Taunton and Exeter St Davids may be delayed.
Additional Information
The track circuit which allows the signaller to safely see which trains are occupying different sections of track has failed at the western end of Exeter St David's station. This has locked a set of points into one position, meaning some trains can't switch between different tracks.

As a result, the number of available platforms at Exeter St David's that trains can use will be reduced from 6 to 2.

Services between Exeter Central & Barnstaple will start/terminate at Exeter St David's.

Services between Exmouth & Paignton will start/terminate and restart at Exeter St David's.

That's quite a truncation - only the first 3 minutes of 71!

That's quite a truncation - only the first 3 minutes of 71!

Still very much worth flagging up - it may be only 4% of the journey time to many, but for those wishing to start their journey at Exeter Central and turning up at their usual time, it's 100% of the journey ruined.

Are services running on radio authorisation to pass the next signal, etc from control.  Where is 'control' for the wilderness that is West of Liskeard?

Delays between Par and Plymouth?  Not directly listed by journeycheck in line updates or train cancellations.
BUT.  Several runs listed as running late due to a signalling problem in other train service updates.
A few short runs; crews also late for branch line turns.

Looks like a pretty active gang is operating down in Cornwall. This must be the 4th incident in less than a month.

Delays between Plymouth and Par with a signaller being taken ill.
A few trains cancelled, or terminated short.
Local radio reporting a relief signaller is on 'his' way.

Guessing a box would be switched out so why the cancellations I wonder.

Initially no signaller to cover Lostwithiel box (with its associated crossing).

Running now further disrupted.
09:05 Plymouth to Newquay due 10:49
09:05 Plymouth to Newquay due 10:49 will be started from Par.
It will no longer call at Plymouth, Saltash, St Germans, Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway.
This is due to a person hit by a train earlier.
