Due to a wartime bomb near the railway earlier today disruption is expected until 14:15 06/08.
Impact:
Train services between Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple may be cancelled or delayed.
Customer Advice:
We're sorry for the delay to your journey today.
An unexploded wartime bomb had been discovered near to the railway line, this meant the railway line between Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple was closed for a time.
The British Transport Police have attended and deem it is safe, so train services are now able to run. There may be some further disruption as we recover the service.
We are trying to arrange for train tickets to be accepted on the local Stagecoach bus routes. If youd like to use the Stagecoach bus before this is in place, please purchase a ticket on the bus, keep it, and sent it, along with your train ticket, to us for a refund of the bus fare.
Stagecoach bus routes 5, 5A, 5B and 5C run between Exeter St Davids, Credition, Copplestone and Barnstaple.
We will update this message with more information when we have it.

An example of the short runs ....

Quote
14:35 Barnstaple to Exeter Central due 15:54 will be started from Exeter St Davids.

It will no longer call at Barnstaple, Umberleigh, Eggesford, Morchard Road, Copplestone, Yeoford and Crediton.
This is due to a wartime bomb near the railway.

Every sympathy with the TOC on things like this

This ‘Bomb’ which caused cancellation of four trains each way between approx 1130 and 1530, was apparently nothing more than a piece of steel pipe.

Might have been lost in translation, especially if RN bomb disposal people were called out. They are all members of the diver branch.
