Title: Knock on problems - the Ampersand

Cancellations to services between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central

Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time between Slough and Windsor & Eton Central the line is closed.

Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 12:00 06/11.

Customer Advice

The train left at Slough in preparation of running a service on the Windsor branch line requires an engineer to prepare it for service in the same way they would usually be prepared at its normal train depot in Reading. Trains on the branch line cannot run until this happens.

We're sorry for any disruption this brings to your travel plans today.

I am delighted to see a better explanation that we have in the past, though it would be nice if it included alternatives - which at present are probably NOT "go down to your local bus station" as there was a major fire there the other day!   Slough public transport really is having its issues.

There are a couple of stations - and Windsor and Eton Central is one of them - that include an "&" character in their name and because of how HTML works with this being a special character makes them special cases for the cancellation map, which scrapes a GWR feed.   It looks like the feed has been updated in how it handles the station name, so the cancellation map this morning is showing cancellations from Slough not to Windsor but to the Sciliy Isles.  As I am in Sicily this morning I am hardly home to fix this, but I'll see what I can do.

The train has been prepared, or will be in time for start of service, so all services will now run as scheduled.

Indeed - and I have just spent 15 minutes looking to fix a problem that no longer exists.   Now an issue with added trains to Heathrow Terminal 5.  Just typical that these things go wrong when I'm away having been hunky dory for months!

A few questions about the engineer / train / Slough interface, mind...

As for the ampersand woes, the fact that you're in Sicily and it sends your trains to Scilly suggests your code is becoming a bit sentient and being arch and humorous.

I thought it would have been silly to mention that.
