Title: "Just keep playing trains" - railways as mental health therapy.
Post by: JayMac on November 30, 2022, 23:31:39
A subject close to my heart. Some of you may know that I struggle with mental health issues. One of my chosen forms of self-medication is to ride the rails. Be it visits to heritage, narrow guage, trams, metros, funiculars. Or journeys just for the journey's sake on the big railway. It can be a struggle to leave the home sometimes, but overcoming that and going on a rail journey or visiting a rail based attraction is often excellent therapy for me. Sadly, not always good for the bank balance though!

And it seems I'm not alone. Here's a recent video featuring rail enthusiasts and TV/video sharing presenters 'Tim Marshall and Geoff Dunn' visiting the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. In the video Tim and Geoff talk candidly, and at times, emotionally, about their own problems and struggles.

In summary. If you're feeling down. Ride the rails!

Oh and try not to suffer in silence.
