Title: On target for Net Zero?
Post by: CyclingSid on March 13, 2023, 10:17:03
Starting with £200 million knocked of the Active Travel budget

"Promised Government targets of 50% of all journeys in English towns and cities being walked or cycled by 2030, and for the UK to be Net Zero by 2050, are made impossible by these cuts."

Is my understanding that Net Zero can be achieved by a flick of a switch on 31st December 2049 from the Government's messages. Presumably this will be reinforced by another freeze in fuel duty in the budget (after another rise in rail fares).

The local authorities have obviously got the message

Active Travel England rates councils' capability to deliver infrastructure — 94% fall in lowest three categories

or if you want it in the governments own words

Can't say that West Sussex getting a big fat zero suprises me.

Obviously none of this flat playing field stuff (and my old legs don't perform will cycling uphill).

Lovely, but I we won't see anything like that in this country in my life time or by 2050 (take your pick of which).
