There’s been a band of rain stuck in the same place over parts of the West Country for quite sometime now. In some cases, it’s been raining pretty much since last Thursday evening. That coming after a pretty sodden and dull March:

So no, not surprised that Network Rail are experiencing issues with flooding again.

There are also reports of rising water levels at Dauntsey near Chippenham on the alternative route.  Line still open at present.

In the last 24 hours (to 8am) we have had 1.14 inches of rain in Swindon - around half of that since midnight.

The line through Dauntsey is now closed in both directions with three trains stopped outside of stations between Swindon and Chippenham.

Looks like one line is open between Swindon and Chippenham with Bristol bound trains sharing the up line between Wootton Bassett and Thingley East junctions.  TransWilts services from Westbury running as far as Chippenham and waiting time at the down platform.

Went to Oxford today and cycled back to Didcot.

Water everywhere, lots of water in the fields from Reading to Didcot. They have built a haul road to the bridge that is mentioned elsewhere, which now appears to have a walking speed restriction. Workers on site, but not sure what they can do with these water levels. On the cycle back I chickened out of following the Thames down to the Cowley branch and went through Kennington. Had to cycle through water coming round the top of Didcot power station. Got to Didcot station to be greeted by train cancelled on screens. Stopper to Paddington did.

Both routes between Swindon and Bristol are now closed in both directions.

Chippenham is only being served by a TW shuttle from Westbury.

South Wales services are being diverted via Gloucester.

Bristol Temple Meads services are going via Newbury.

23:30 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads due 01:15

23:30 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads due 01:15 will be diverted between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads.
It will no longer call at Chippenham and Bath Spa but will call additionally at Bristol Parkway.
It will be delayed due to the diversion and is expected to be 60 minutes late.
This is due to heavy rain flooding the railway.

Standish Junction is the name you're thinking of.  The layout of the crossovers would allow reversal: as for the signalling ...
