Title: Journalistic inaccuracies Post by: grahame on May 29, 2023, 20:32:52 OK - so it would get lost in the "Portishead" thread ... from Bristol World (https://www.bristolworld.com/recommended/the-derelict-bristol-railway-station-set-to-reopen-after-more-than-60-years-4155647)
Quote The branch line from Bristol to Portishead closed to passengers in 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts. Since then, only freight trains to Portbury docks and the occasional nostalgic steam train have passed through Pill. Err ... steam trains? I can recall some diesel specials .... Quote This was the old Railway Inn where passengers would often wait before their train, or for a drink after a long journey. I can't help thinking that the Railway Inn would have been almost always before and not after a journey Quote But the good news is that the disused line will reopen in 2026. Work on the £152m project will start in the summer of 2024 and once complete, there will be hourly journeys from Portishead to Bristol Temple Meads, Are we sure of that date? I think I did both excursion options, but the details are a bit hazy now! Title: Re: Journalistic inaccuracies Post by: WSW Frome on May 31, 2023, 13:42:42 There were some further steam excursions along the branch and also to St Andrews Road on which I travelled. Circa 2004 or 2005.

I can't help thinking that the Railway Inn would have been almost always before and not after a journey Indeed - thinking of LONG journeys, people are likely to get to the station early whereas at the conclusion of such a journey they are probabley tired and want to get to their final destination. I'd take care, coming to Pill with your fancy-pantsy Melksham ways. Anyway, you'd be better by far in the Duke or the Star...
