I will be on the train again this Saturday - this time following the old Works Trip day out.

I will be in Weymouth for a couple of hours on Saturday, travelling on the Pathfinder tour, Mk1 stock hauled by a Cl40. I join the train at Cheltenham, travelling out via Swindon, Reading and Basingstoke and returning via Yeovil and Bath.  Details

I may well take pictures of that ... the fare to travel, though, is much higher than that on "The Trip".  Perhaps I'll bump into you at the ice cream stand!

An inclusive day according to the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-65854014

Piles of rotting seaweed strewn across part of a seaside resort's beach will not be cleared, a council has said.

The seaweed has been washed up by winds on the southern section of Weymouth Beach in Dorset.

In a statement, the authority added: "While we understand that our approach may not align with some personal preferences, it is important to note that we are not striving to provide a synthetic, controlled swimming pool experience.

"Instead, we invite visitors to embrace the raw beauty of nature in its unaltered form, which includes the presence of seaweed."

Went to Maiden Newton to see the Pathfinder tour on its return from Weymouth. Realised it was 40 years ago I first travelled on an F&W railtour - the Menai Marauder.

Bumped into a former student from my teaching days in Dorchester. Had nor seen him for over 40 years!

I was going to phot the tour at Maiden Newton, but ended up at Bincombe instead. Photted it earlier at Worting Junction.

Despite the fairly long hot, dry spell, I was surprised at how green the vegetation and fields still are!

Dozens off Swindon, pick ups all along the way including a flood at Melksham, some off but more on along the way.  Bruton quietest stop (this train misses out the 4 smallest stations) and spot-on loading into Weymouth

Return train ran on time - but that's RTT evidence because I took an afternoon side-trip that went wrong and I got back into Westbury on a late service a few minutes after it left there for Swindon.

Was that the worst you could see? Previous photos I've seen had kelp right up the beach & along it for nearly half the full length.

Seems as though a huge amount has been washed out already.

I didn't go looking for kelp trouble.   Certainly felt that the reports were much overrated.  My understanding is that seaweed is a major component of ice cream - perhaps a local entrepreneur had gathered it up.   Certainly had a luscious cone at Sandfoot; no selfies this week.

No I didn't wear my Panama over the weekend, and was else where.
